The hunt for InStyle

As one of the country’s most respected jewellery editors and book authors, InStyle contributing editor Marion Fasel has been on my mind for a while. Back in January, we met in her very well decorate office in New York where we talked about the recent Oscars, changes in fashion journalism and, of course, jewelry.

I have been following Marion’s work for a while to learn what style of jewelry she likes and gravitates to. Understanding the journalist’s interests, passions and writing style is a hugely important part of successful PR. In fashion journalism, where personal taste is the name of the game, understanding the journalist is doubly important.

So when I saw the latest custom chandelier earrings Yael Designs created, I just knew that she would like them… And she did! The earrings soon appeared on the “We’re Obsessed!” section of InStyle magazine.

Feature on Martha Stewart Weddings

Back in January, we met with several editors in New York for deskside meetings to show a new collection Yael Designs was releasing with Ashley Morgan Designs. It was great to finally meet Sherri Caudell Brennan, the jewelry editor at Martha Stewart Weddings, in person – we’ve worked together for 2 years just over email.

After the official release of the collection, here’s a great story Sherri wrote about the new collection on Martha Stewart Weddings.

Fashion: Bridal Jewelry from the Leone Collection

Posted by Sherri Caudell Brennan

Ashley Morgan and Yael Designs have teamed up to create the Leone Collection, a group of stunning wedding bands, engagement rings, and day-of jewelry.

I love the blackened gold on some of the earrings and the raven-colored diamonds in the engagement rings and wedding bands. The pearl pieces have a wonderful Old World charm to them, perfect for your walk down the aisle. See some of my favorite picks below.

Yael Designs at the Golden Globes

We’re really excited to see that San Francisco jewelry designer Yael Designs has been getting a lot of press coverage in recent weeks for a whole littany of its rings, earrings and pendants.

Here is Yael Designs appearing at the Golden Globes 2011 awards where Inside Edition anchor Deborah Norville paired a red David Meister dress with rubylite and morganite Yael Designs earrings. Here’s Deborah interviewing nominee Jennifer Lawrence:

Summer highlights

Here are some highlights from the last few months:

Yael’s gorgeous jewelry was also featured in Get Married magazine (see the deep blue ring in the center?):

Celebrity placement

Hollywood may as well be a medieval castle – if you’re on the inside you know all the dirty laundry, but if you’re on the outside breaking in takes a lot of courage, strategy and desire.

But while it’s not the easiest place to break into, Hollywood celebrity representation can make a huge difference in brand awareness for fashion brands like Yael Designs.

Celebrity placement involves stylist coordination, insurance, deadline shipping, buying stock photos and praying that the photos come out nice.

One tip: big, easily recognizable pieces work best. See the difference in these two pics of actress Melora Hardin (The Office) wearing Yael Designs jewelry at two different pre-award show parties:

Yael Designs gives Elle readers advice

Fine jewelry client Yael Designs was featured on Elle.com in a story “How the Holidays Affect Relationships“. Yael’s chief designer Yehouda Saketkhou was quoted:

“It’s hard for men to know exactly when to propose, and many want to do it around family,” concurs Yehouda Saketkhou, chief designer for Yael Designs, a jewelry house in San Francisco. “Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s are the busiest occasions for sales.”

Last issue of Modern Bride magazine

When Conde Nast announced last week that they’re shutting down Gourmet, Modern Bride and Elegant Bride, I panicked. The announcement said Modern Bride’s current issue was the last one. It was October and in Dec/Jan issue my jewelry client, Yael Designs, was supposed to have a ring featured.

I tried contacting the Modern Bride editor – her email returned and her phone line was turned off. So I went on Twitter and saw that someone said they just received the Dec/Jan issue. I couldn’t believe it. I ran to the stores only to find the October bride smirking at me from the newsstands.

But after several days of turmoil, the December issue finally (and quite mysteriously) appeared. And my client’s ring made it in! Ironically, the last issue still had a 10-month subcription card inside.
