The Peninsula New York Turned 25 and We Got to Go!

This week, I got to go to accompany our wedding music client Michael Taylor, CEO of Star Talent Inc., to The Peninsula New York’s  25th Anniversary Celebration. This was one heck of a party – with caviar, champagne, 5 different bands, a dance performance over a pool and a slew of celebrities to spot! And since The Peninsula is one of New York’s premier 5-star wedding venues, I got to meet several prominent wedding vendors as well.

The Peninsula New York

As I arrived, I was greeted by this Chinese dragon that immediately put me in the mood to party – after all, The Peninsula is a Chinese company that was first founded in Hong Kong more than 80 years ago:

The party began in the hotel lobby, which was converted into a bar. And to showcase the newly opened restaurant, Clement, they had the Chef de Cuisine Brandon Kida’s regionally inspired seasonal dishes and desserts.

Of course, given that I’m Russian, I went straight for the Petrossian caviar bar… Yum!!

While one party raged in the hotel lobby, another two were simultaneously taking place on the hotel’s rooftop terrace. Salon de Ning, which is normally an open terrace, was tented to create an intimate retro lounge with Asian specialties including sushi and dim sum and featuring Prohibition-era music and dancing.

Meanwhile, The Sun Terrance, a wrap-around balcony with amazing views that can accommodate smaller weddings, featured Latin music with a lively Cuban-inspired cocktail bar. The Peninsula even transformed its pool on the 21st floor by covering it and turning it into a dance floor! Since the hotel doesn’t have a ballroom, I think they should keep the dance floor as an option for weddings in the future.

Speaking of weddings… I met some amazing wedding vendors at the party, including prominent New York wedding photographer David Hechler, Annie Lee, a great wedding designer with Daughter of Design and David Beahm who created this amazing flower obelisk:

In addition to the beautiful décor and delicious treats, I spotted a few celebs: fashion icon Oscar De La Renta, tennis player John McEnroe and the gorgeous Naomi Campbell. I even rode the elevator with Greyton Carter, the publisher of Vanity Fair!

I certainly couldn’t complain. Especially when upon exiting I was greeted with this dessert display:

The Peninsula New York sure knows how to throw one heck of a party. And I’m one lucky girl who gets to go.

Lovesick Expo rocks New York wedding scene

Lovesick Expo vendorsThere is perhaps no better way to start off our company’s move to New York City than by attending a local wedding show. Especially if it’s The Lovesick Expo, a unique wedding showcase held in the heart of hipster-land Williamsburg.

Held for the 3rd year in a row, the Lovesick Expo bills itself as “an elite array of local talent, unique wedding ideas, hand-crafted, and eco-friendly goods, appealing to indie-minded couples.”

And I’d say it certainly lives up to its reputation. Compared to traditional wedding shows, Lovesick Expo was a well-curated intimate event for couples that have a unique sense of style and want to find wedding vendors to match their vision. We met a lot of unique vendors, some based right around the corner, others visiting all the way from Philadelphia.

I met our friends from Bonobos who launched a unique partnership with Weddington Way to help rescue the bridal party from the fashion gutter.

There were many florists at the show, but we especially liked this display by Foxglove, Brooklyn-based floral design studio that specializes in locally sourced flowers (including those from New York state!)

Another Brooklyn-based floral designer who stood out was Jen Hyde from Off Cut Brooklyn, a true craft artist who works not only with flowers but also makes ties!

Although, as in all wedding shows, there was a large percentage of New York photographers, the one that stood out from the crowd was Brae Howard Photography because of her unique DIY booth display. Brae explained that she printed out her work on sheets of cotton using SpoonFlower.com and pinned them onto a large burlap sheet. Unique wedding photographer booth

We also met the folks from the Green Bride Guide, whose business card was attached to a plantable wildflower heart that’s one of the wedding favors they carry, and tried delicious duck appetizer from Betty Brooklyn Catering Company.Betty Brooklyn Catering

But the biggest surprise was meeting Vinny DePonto, a Brooklyn-based magician! Heading his cleverly-named company Now You See Him, Vinny travels around the country entertaining wedding guests with fun, non-kitschy magic tricks. For the right wedding, I think it’s a really fun idea!

All in all, Lovesick Expo’s quirky, stylish vendor showcase was a delightful way to celebrate I Do PR’s move to New York City’s. We’re very excited to attend more interesting shows and discover other talented New York wedding vendors.

Multicultural wedding by Nadia D Photography in Wedding Nouveau

The 2012 holiday issue of Wedding Nouveau magazine is out and we’re so excited to see the 6-page spread the editors put together on the multicultural wedding of Tejal & Bobby, beautifully captured by Nadia D Photography. The ceremony took place at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park on the dockside of a gorgeous lake. The reception, decorated in orange and purple color scheme and themed after Phantom of the Opera, was held at the classy Fox Theater. Our favorite element of the wedding was a twist on the candy bar, made to remind guests of an Indian spice bazaar, filled with orange and purple candy for guests to take home. Cute, right?

Media storm for engagement shoot by Nadia D Photography

This week, the work of Nadia D Photography is taking the media by storm because of one adventurous couple, stunning setting and a hot red dress. Earlier this summer, Nadia shot the engagement session of O’Shea and Shawn in Atlanta’s sleek W Hotel. The shoot was inspired by James Bond movies and features the sexy couple in a glamorous hotel setting. Nadia’s experience in fashion and the couple’s sense of style were a match made in heaven.

So we weren’t surprised when we were approached by Essence magazine, BlackBride and The Bride’s Cafe to feature this sultry e-session. Methinks the red dress had something to do with it 🙂

Eco-Beautiful Weddings publishes Choco Studio wedding

Eco-Beautiful Weddings, a magazine about – you guessed it – beautiful eco-friendly weddings, published the unique bohemian wedding of Erin & Kris photographed by Choco Studio at the always stunning Dawn Ranch Lodge in Guerneville, CA.

Erin’s green Vera Wang gown has been all the rage with wedding editors! But I also loved how she paired it with a purple floral wreath – very original. The wedding color palette just jumps off the magazine pages.

Check out the original photos from Erin & Kris wedding on Choco Studio’s blog.

East Coast Wedding Photographer Nadia D Joins I Do PR

We are pleased to announce the newest member of the I Do PR family – the very talented wedding photographer Nadia D!

Originally from Russia, Nadia D is based out of Atlanta where she has been shooting weddings for over 8 years. With a degree in fine art and photojournalism, she has established herself as the photographer of choice for high-end Atlanta weddings, engagements and destination weddings both abroad and in her favorite East Coast metropolitan centers like New York and Washington DC.

As a hopeless romantic herself, Nadia knows exactly how to capture the love her couples have for each other in every shot – one of the many reasons we adore her work! She excels at creative editorial portraiture, which is her biggest passion.

Nadia has also become the expert on Indian weddings, which can have an incredible amount of details, colors and people, and often span multiple days.

We are very excited to work with Nadia D and help her show off her artistic talent for capturing great weddings.

Best wedding photographers honored by ISPWP

The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers, or ISPWP, just published the winners of its Wedding Photography Contest, where the work of the best photographers in the world is honored. Check out the amazingly creative wedding photography.

One of the judges was Mike Peyzner, the founder and CEO of wedding photography studio Choco Studio. This prestigious job was the result of Choco’s amazing work, long involvement with the ISPWP and the recognition they have received from many important publications.
