Choco Studio in San Francisco Brides

I’m so excited to see one of my favorite real weddings photographed by San Francisco Wedding Photographers Choco Studio featured in San Francisco Brides!

The wedding of Laura and David at Radonich Ranch, a 100-year-old family owned fruit cannery in Santa Cruz county, featured beautiful pink and red details with the groom’s adorable seer-sucker suit and an absolutely sensational strawberry cake. You can see more photos from the wedding on Choco Studio blog.

Balenciaga and Spain a Fashion Inspiration

I just went to the fabulous Balenciaga and Spain exhibit at San Francisco’s de Young Museum and was blown away by the powerful work of Spanish haute couture master Cristóbal Balenciaga (1895-1972).

Balenciaga’s fashion sense was strongly influenced by Spanish art, dance and even religious traditions. But unlike many designers who hide their original influences behind layers of material, Balenciaga wasn’t afraid to take easily recognizable silhouettes like a monk’s pointed cape and transform it into a brown raincoat (see the last mannequin on the right) or take a nun’s robe and make it into a chic wedding dress (see center).

His other major influence were the traditional costumes of Spanish bullfighters, from which came many stylish hats, shirts and, a personal favorite of mine, a black cape with delicate pink pompoms.

Balenciaga’s other influences ranged from the lavish ornaments of the old Spanish royal court seen in paintings by Velasquez to the geometric shapes in the modern paintings of his friend Joan Miro.

Walking around the exhibit it really seemed like Balenciaga could take anything – from a monk’s simple robe to a fisherwoman’s tucked skirt – and transform it into true haute couture, while preserving the costume traditions of the Spanish people. No wonder he was referred to as “the master of us all” by Christian Dior.

The exhibit closes on July 4, so if you live in San Francisco and care about fashion, go N-O-W!

San Francisco Brides issue talks up local talent

I just received the Fall 2011 issue of San Francisco Brides magazine and the cover is simply to die for, featuring a powdery leafy crepe cake by Batter Bakery that may just make a girl forget about her groom, especially when shot by the famed wedding photographer Elizabeth Messina.

If you’re a loyal follower, you’ll notice the paper in the magazine feels and looks different than usual. Editor in chief Robin Wilkey told me, “The new stock is thicker with a bit more tooth. The goal is to make the colors pop and the book thicker.”

For me, the highlights of this issue include the local fashion shoot “Making Waves” shot in the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and featuring wedding gowns by local designers Jinza Couture Bridal and the quickly rising star Amy Kuschel.

My one regret is that all the jewelry in the shoot is provided by advertisers, many of them national brands, instead of local designers. As a former full-time newspaper reporter, I understand that the money for magazines has to come from somewhere and that jewelers are often it, but I also think we in San Francisco have a reputation for local talent to uphold.

When I was talking to national jewelry editors at a trade show in Las Vegas last month, they said San Francisco is not exactly known for its jewelry designers. But I assure you, we have plenty of amazing local talent.

I have nothing against giants like Tiffany & Co, but just as brides are starting to embrace local gown designers, I think many of them would love to know more about their local jewelry artists.

But I digress…

One of the reasons I was very excited to finally see this issue was because of its real weddings. Not only are they a fun read, but this time the editors included an incredible real wedding photographed by Choco Studio.

But that will have to wait till my next post 🙂

Best wedding photographers honored by ISPWP

The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers, or ISPWP, just published the winners of its Wedding Photography Contest, where the work of the best photographers in the world is honored. Check out the amazingly creative wedding photography.

One of the judges was Mike Peyzner, the founder and CEO of wedding photography studio Choco Studio. This prestigious job was the result of Choco’s amazing work, long involvement with the ISPWP and the recognition they have received from many important publications.

The hunt for InStyle

As one of the country’s most respected jewellery editors and book authors, InStyle contributing editor Marion Fasel has been on my mind for a while. Back in January, we met in her very well decorate office in New York where we talked about the recent Oscars, changes in fashion journalism and, of course, jewelry.

I have been following Marion’s work for a while to learn what style of jewelry she likes and gravitates to. Understanding the journalist’s interests, passions and writing style is a hugely important part of successful PR. In fashion journalism, where personal taste is the name of the game, understanding the journalist is doubly important.

So when I saw the latest custom chandelier earrings Yael Designs created, I just knew that she would like them… And she did! The earrings soon appeared on the “We’re Obsessed!” section of InStyle magazine.

Feature on Martha Stewart Weddings

Back in January, we met with several editors in New York for deskside meetings to show a new collection Yael Designs was releasing with Ashley Morgan Designs. It was great to finally meet Sherri Caudell Brennan, the jewelry editor at Martha Stewart Weddings, in person – we’ve worked together for 2 years just over email.

After the official release of the collection, here’s a great story Sherri wrote about the new collection on Martha Stewart Weddings.

Fashion: Bridal Jewelry from the Leone Collection

Posted by Sherri Caudell Brennan

Ashley Morgan and Yael Designs have teamed up to create the Leone Collection, a group of stunning wedding bands, engagement rings, and day-of jewelry.

I love the blackened gold on some of the earrings and the raven-colored diamonds in the engagement rings and wedding bands. The pearl pieces have a wonderful Old World charm to them, perfect for your walk down the aisle. See some of my favorite picks below.

A beautiful Hans Fahden, Calistoga wedding shot by wedding photographers Choco Studio was selected to be the Real Wedding in the May/June 2011 issue of Bridal Guide magazine, now on newstands. And if I may say so myself, it turned out amazing!

Sand-written wedding proposal in 7×7

As soon as I saw these amazing pictures that my friend took of a sand-written wedding proposal at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, I knew I had to share with the world. The editor of 7×7 Weddings agreed 🙂 The best part is that as the word about this spread through social media, the editor was able to find the artist, sand master Andres Amador, and the happy couple!

Sand-Written Wedding Proposal at Ocean Beach

Publicist Sasha Vasilyuk sent me these photos of a wedding proposal over the weekend and I can’t stop thinking about them. Does anyone out there know Kelly, who proposed to her, and what she answered?

Here’s what we know: A friend of Vasilyuk came upon the graphic proposal over the weekend at Ocean Beach and snapped these pictures. As the photos show, it’s an amazing work of sand art topped with the words: Will you marry me Kelly?

It must have taken someone hours to create the beautiful pattern. I’d love to get the full story—how he or she made the design, how long it took him or her, and how Kelly reacted. Click below to enlarge the photo for its stunning detail:

Yael Designs at the Golden Globes

We’re really excited to see that San Francisco jewelry designer Yael Designs has been getting a lot of press coverage in recent weeks for a whole littany of its rings, earrings and pendants.

Here is Yael Designs appearing at the Golden Globes 2011 awards where Inside Edition anchor Deborah Norville paired a red David Meister dress with rubylite and morganite Yael Designs earrings. Here’s Deborah interviewing nominee Jennifer Lawrence:

Nominee and producer of “How to Train Your Dragon” Bonnie Arnold wore Yael Designs tanzanite earrings!
