Bridal Market Fashion Shows Offer Intimate Experience

April 28, 2014

While it’s exhilarating to see big name designers like Monique Lhullier and Amsale present big production runway shows during the biannual Bridal Fashion Week, the smaller shows by other designers offer a more intimate experience.

For Spring 2014 Bridal Market, we attended two smaller shows by Theia and Watters, two great brands that offer popular bridal and bridesmaid dress designs.

I like the intimate view that the smaller shows offer of the dresses as you often get to sit very close to the models, letting you see the dress in detail.

The smaller bridal market shows also offer a greater opportunity to see the reaction of the press to a particular dress. While at bigger shows, everyone in attendance snaps photo of every dress that comes out on the runway, for smaller shows the attending editors stick to the highlights. Since everyone receives professional images of the runway shows for actual editorial placement in magazines and blogs within a couple of days of the show, the main point of taking photos at the events themselves is for social media. Editors tend to react to the design they like en masse, so you can literally feel the energy in the room spike when a particularly interesting design comes on the runway.

At the Spring 2014 Watters show, the highlight was definitely the bridal romper that took everyone by surprise and gave us all a nice break from the ubiquitous white dress. Check out this beauty and see the expressions of the editors it caused:

Such a reaction immediately translates into a storm of social media love. Just check Instagram or Twitter for ‘Watters romper’ and you’ll see what I mean.

The smaller shows also offer a greater opportunity for networking with the designers and members of the press as we all discuss their favorite looks and other designers whose collections they’re excited about.

New York Bridal Market is my favorite time of the year as it gives me a chance to take the pulse of the wedding industry and stay ahead of the curve.

The Bach Goes Big in First Year

April 25, 2014

Launched in October 2013, The Bach turned to I Do PR to help create buzz before the wedding planning season began.  As the first of its kind online platform for planning bachelorette parties, we used The Bach’s unique position in the marketplace to our advantage.  We showed off the platform’s well designed features that make planning stress-free for bridesmaids everywhere, and positioned the founder, Joanne Barken, as a bachelorette party expert.

In just a few short months, The Bach and its founder have been featured not only in renowned bridal publications like New York Weddings, Bridal Guide and Destination Weddings & Honeymoons, but also in lifestyle publications including Glamour, Huffington Post, The Daily Beast and Uptown, giving advice for bachelorette parties in all 50 states as well Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas.

Here are a few of our favorite press features:

Glamour loves The Bach, saying that the site takes bachelorette parties off the list of wedding things to worry about.

Trade in your oversized martini glass for a personalized flask!  New York Magazine turned to The Bach founder for expert advice on upgrading your bachelorette party.

Uptown Magazine featured The Bach as its “Something New,” and quoted founder Joanne Barken, who developed the site after having seen too many bachelorette parties that should have been fun become full of stress.

Inside Weddings recommends The Bach not only for planning itineraries, but also to “discover more restaurants, bars, activities, and transportation available around the country and abroad.”

Huffington Post Weddings recognized The Bach as one of 2014 Top Wedding Sites You’ve Never Heard Of. And now, as a recognized bachelorette expert, Joanne Barken also authors articles on the subject for the Huffington Post.

Amsale and Kenneth Pool Gather Big Crowds for Spring 2015 Bridal Fashion Week

April 16, 2014

The biannual Bridal Fashion Week is always an exciting time in New York when major bridal designers reveal their new collections, editors fly in from other countries to see what’s new and hot, and vendors gather from all over the country to shop for new collections and meet other industry folks.

3

For April 2014 Bridal Market, we were invited to attend the Spring 2015 Bridal Shows by Amsale and Kenneth Pool, both designed by the talented Amsale Aberra. Held at the newly renovated EZ Studios in Midtown, the shows drew a full house, including editors from as far away as Russia, Korea, and Singapore.

2

Before the show began, it was great to catch up with Heather, former fashion editor at The Knot, who is now heading Amsale’s PR department.

4

Open backs and dramatic skirts in both lines caught a lot of attention from editors. Also in attendance was a representative from Google, who asked Naima DiFranco, Fashion and Beauty Editor at Bridal Guide, to snap some pictures of the runway using Google Glass.

5

The rest of the audience snapped photos and videos on their smart phones. With about 50 people in attendance, most of them editors with a few major stores cropped in, Amsale’s show are the middle of the road in terms of size. Most of the shows tend to be a little smaller, but some – like Monique Lhullier – can get over 100 attendees.

6

While major American TV networks don’t cover Bridal Fashion Week, some industry publications as well as foreign journalists use the opportunity to interview the designers after the show.

Bridal Fun Back in the Bay

April 1, 2014
San Francisco bridal public relations agency

What better way to escape chilly New York City than with a trip back to sunny San Francisco?

Photo Mar 13, 6 06 17 PM

On our recent trip to San Francisco, we met some amazing bridal vendors, attended a few memorable events and of course enjoyed some fantastic views of the Bay!

We got to check out the new Potrero Hill digs of wedding planner extraordinaire Alicia K Designs:

Alicia K

It was great to meet Alicia in person and hear her inspiring story of business successes as she prepares to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her company later this year! As publicists, we especially appreciated the Media Wall she displays in the office. Nice, eh?

We attended ISES event at The Regency Center with presentations by Kate Harrison, founder of Green Bride Guide, and Johanna Walsh, Eco-Events Planner at NY/SF firm Twirl Management. It was great to catch up with old friends and amazing San Francisco wedding vendors including Emily Dreblow of Soulflower Design Studio and Kathryn Kalabokes of Dream a Little Dream Events!

Selfies in Regency Bathroom

The Regency Ballroom is a grand wedding venue with a huge capacity. While it was too dark to take pictures inside, I snapped a selfie in the Regency’s Grand Bathroom 🙂

We also got invited to accompany a San Francisco Chronicle Style section reporter on a styled shoot featuring accomplished San Francisco men in J. Hilburn attire, photographed in the super hip South Park.

But our favorite event in San Francisco – and the main reason for going all the way West (besides the endless winter….) was the Junior League of San Francisco 2014 Fashion Show, sponsored by Yael Designs. Known as one of San Francisco’s top socialite and fundraising events of the year, it’s one of the very few days to spot local women in gowns  – after all, San Francisco is more known for casual hoodies these days.

Here’s our founder Sasha Vasilyuk in Yael Designs rubylite earrings and white Diane von Furstenberg dress:

Yael Designs jewelry was paired with the new fashion line by San Francisco fashion designer and “Project Runway” contestant  Melissa Fleis:

As we work with several San Francisco-based clients, it’s always such a pleasure to go back. Especially when it’s snowing outside.

March 15, 2014

Fashionable, affordable, returnable — leading online bridesmaid dress boutique Weddington Way debuted an innovative line of bridesmaid dresses!  The Weddington Way Collection is the company’s first foray into private fashion labels, so they wanted to make a big splash around the line’s launch.

Six Styles of Weddington Way dresses

We worked with Weddington Way and our other client Nadia D Photography to stage a beautiful editorial shoot in San Francisco to show off the new collection.

Martha Stewart Weddings was the first to offer a sneak preview of the collection on its Instagram feed. Then, we released the news of Weddington Way’s new collection to all major bridal press.  Here are a few of our favorite press hits:

Brides

Brides raves about the stylishness of the dresses, calling this a collection of “dresses that your girls really will want to wear again after the wedding.”

2014_2_Glamour

Glamour Weddings loves the pockets, and “the best part is, unlike most bridesmaid dresses, they ship immediately–meaning you don’t have to wait six to eight weeks for your dress to roll in.”

2014_2_CaliforniaWeddingDay

California Wedding Day comments on the great versatility of the collection, stating, “Every style is available in the same colors, making it easy to find a dress that flatters everyone in your bridal party.”

Style Bistro on Weddington Way

Style Bistro loves the style of the dresses themselves, as “each made of gloriously unfussy faille in colors such as coral, mint and tuxedo grey.”

Ultimate Bridesmaid

Ultimate Bridesmaid loves the returnable nature of the site, “that’s right ladies, you can order without fear and return or exchange if the style doesn’t impress.”
