First Wed Tech Conference Rocked San Francisco

June 20, 2014

This week, we hosted the first ever Wedding Technology Conference along with our friends at SF New Tech! We had a great turnout with people from both the wedding and tech industries, including some folks who drove all the way from San Diego to attend.

Thanks to some delicious vendors and RocketSpace’s awesome location in downtown San Francisco, the night was a great time had by all.

The conference wouldn’t have been a success without our super sweet sponsors! Our guests were able to sample some superb Bay Area-made treats including cupcakes, ice cream sandwiches, delicious appetizers, wine and more.

Caterer and Sprinkles

The Sprinkles Cupcakes were irresistible – our favorite was the red velvet! John Silva from Culinary Eye Catering spoiled us with savory appetizers that were beautifully presented.

Fom and Batter

Zev from Fom, pictured here with Olivia from RocketSpace, showcased his cool oxygen-infused coffee. And Jen Musty, founder of Batter Bakery, shared some ice cream sandwich’s (including the absolutely amazing oatmeal coconut cookie with strawberry ice cream… mmm). And the party certainly wouldn’t be the same without the generous donation from Livermore-based Wente Vineyards.

The guests included the editor-in-chief of Today’s Bride, the editor of The Big Fat Indian Wedding blog, executives from xo group and Sephora, as well as other wedding vendors, entrepreneurs, journalists and investors.

We selected 5 great wedding technology companies to showcase how they are disrupting the traditional wedding industry to give the millennial couples a better way to plan their big day.

First up was Rob Farrow, CEO of AislePlanner, who helped us put together this event, took us through his cloud-based wedding planning site.

Tina Hoang-To, founder of Wedding SpotTina Hoang-To, the founder of wedding venue discovery site Wedding Spot, talked about her inspiration behind the company (the experience of planning her own wedding) and their plans to expand to other geographical markets. She also mentioned they are currently raising money.

The ladies behind honeymoon registry Wanderable explained how more and more couples are preferring unique experiences to physical items.

Cynthia Kellogg, the cofounder of Gift Gather, who recently moved to the Bay Area, explained why it’s time for wedding gift giving to change.

Siri Eklund, the founder of Two Bright Lights, which was just acquired by xogrp, told us the history of her 4-year-old company, which she described as the reality show concept for photographers.

The first Wedding Technology Conference was a great success, if we say so ourselves. We hope to see these companies grow and inspire more technologists to come disrupt the wedding industry and make wedding planning better for all.

IvoryLace and Happily Ever Borrowed Pop Up in NYC

June 16, 2014
IvoryLace Pop-up Event

Last week, we visited a bridal pop-up event in New York hosted by IvoryLace and Happily Ever Borrowed, two innovative bridal fashion companies that provide brides an economical and sustainable option for their weddings without sacrificing elegance and glamour.

IvoryLace (we love the name!) is a New York consignment pop-up boutique of gently worn, top of the line wedding dresses, cofounded by Kara Brothers and Amira Karriem. They partnered with Brittany Haas, the founder of Happily Ever Borrowed, which rents out high-end pieces of bridal jewelry. Both located in New York, the young companies decided to partner for the first ever pop-up shop.

Happily Ever Borrowed and IvoryLace Founders

We asked Brittany why she decided to partner with the ladies at IvoryLace.

“We wanted to partner with Ivory Lace because we believe in getting customers the best price possible for high-end, quality bridal attire,” she said. “For an item that can only be worn once in your life, it only makes sense to share that gown and give it life beyond just one night. The same goes with Happily Ever Borrowed accessories. For a hand-crafted sash or piece of jewelry that can only be worn for a few hours, it makes sense to continue to share the piece with brides over time and give the item as much wear as possible. Because our pieces are luxury items, they are made to last a lifetime!”

Located in Chelsea, the pop-up boutique was filled with gowns by Marchesa, Andrea Pitter, and Elizabeth Fillmore – just to name a few of the bridal designers represented. After shopping for dresses, brides could complete the look with jewelry, tiaras, veils, clutches, and sashes from Happily Ever Borrowed.

The pop-up event felt congruent with both brands targeting the same type of bride, so we hope to see more collaboration from these two brands in the future. The event continues this weekend.

“We wanted to give brides in the tri-state area an opportunity to see our accessories and try them on while shopping for their dream gown,” said Brittany Haas. “We’re thrilled at the final product and would love to have brides continue to stop by this weekend.”

Yael Designs Launches Novelique Engagement Ring Collection

June 10, 2014
Novelique Engagement Ring Collection

Award-winning fine jewelry house Yael Designs debuted the Novelique Collection that features one of a kind, hand-engraved engagement rings, inspired by a romantic journey through Turkey.

Designed in collaboration with New York artisanal jewelry designer Christine Huber, the Novelique Collection celebrates the crossroads of modern and ancient, of East and West, of two lives bound to each other. Inspired by the designer’s trip through Turkey, which sits at the crossroads of two civilizations, the Novelique Collection features delicately engraved rings with intricate motifs found in architecture, carpets, tile work and mosaics from the Ottoman Empire.

We presented the Novelique Collection and several of Yael Designs’s newest fashion pieces to editors in New York, where it launched a social media storm.

We started our NYC press tour at The Knot, the premier bridal publication, where the designer Christine Huber got a chance to talk up her collection with the fashion editors, who had a blast trying on the rings!

Our next stop was the offices of the two biggest names in fashion - W and Elle magazines, whose jewelry editors were both huge fans of Yael’s jewelry.

We also chatted with the editors of People StyleWatch, whose fashion editor fell in love with this morganite stunner. From their Instagram post, it looks like the ring has a lot of fans!

But you know the best part of working with a jewelry brand? Yes, that’s right, trying on the jewelry! We got a chance to sample the rings ourselves – it was amazing to see the details of the collection first hand.

Wedding PR from coast to coast

June 4, 2014

We’re very excited to share that as of this summer I DO PR has become a bicoastal agency, with offices in New York City and San Francisco!New York bridal public relations agency

While our agency has always represented national brands headquartered in different parts of the country, not to mention our international clients, we believe that opening a second office in California is an exciting opportunity to have a daily presence on both coasts.

San Francisco wedding public relations agency

New York City is undeniably the center of the publishing industry and becomes the epicenter of all things bridal twice a year during Bridal Market. Meanwhile, San Francisco Bay Area is a prime wedding destination for couples from all over the world as well as a huge innovation hub for technology, environment and food.

Michael Dougherty with Jennie Ma

Michael with Jennie Ma, fashion editor of The Knot

Helping us in this new step is our new associate, Michael Dougherty, a bridal PR expert who has worked closely with top wedding professionals in fashion, design and events.

Prior to joining I Do PR, Michael managed Gabriella New York Bridal Salon as Public Relations Director and Jenny Yoo Collection as Public Relations and Design Manager, where he attained consistent placement in top publications such as The Knot, Brides, Martha Stewart Weddings, Style Me Pretty, The New York Times, and more. Michael has his BFA from the prestigious Parsons School for Design, and is a current contributor to Love Inc. magazine.
